The point of the &quot;s&quot; part is secure, as in the user has PAID FOR a SSL and put it on there site. The reason that it would be pointless is that  most people do not have an SSL as they don&#039;t pay for one.
Plus, it will make browsing slower on sites that do have an SSL on pages that don&#039;t need to be secure.
Take a look at this, the site atebits by the people that make tweetie. They do no accentual deal with cards, its all done with paypal so they don&#039;t need an ssl.
